GDx Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Analyzer

Heights Eyecare is excited to offer a new technology, the GDx Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Analyzer.  The GDx is a scanning laser that measures the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer, allowing our doctors to help detect glaucoma at its early stages.

Glaucoma is a disease of increased fluid in the eye that slowly, over time, causes the Optic Nerve to die.  This disease is painless and has no symptoms until major damage has occurred.  Because of the nature of the disease, glaucoma is difficult to detect.  The GDx, in conjunction with several other tests, will allow the doctors at Heights Eyecare to detect damage from glaucoma earlier than ever before.  Early treatment is paramount in preserving vision in glaucoma patients.

The GDx allows the doctors to screen every patient for nerve fiber damage during their yearly eye exam.  If someone fails the screening, a more comprehensive test can be run on the GDx that gives very specific information about the health of the retinal nerve fiber layer.  This can be compared over time to see if change is occurring, allowing the doctors to adjust treatment and help preserve vision.  Come see the difference at Heights Eyecare.
